What you Get

After 4 months, you will receive 250 talk minutes, and unlimited free texts each month.  Lifeline, a government benefit agency, provides discount services to low-income families. If you qualify, you will receive 250 talk and texts every month.

When you go beyond the 250-month minutes, you can purchase airtime and text time, as low as $5 per month.  Assurance also has inexpensive unlimited  and pay-as-you-go plans.  In addition, you can buy Tracfone any-time Top-Up cards, from multiple retail locations across the country or online with a credit card or PayPal.

When buying airtime from Tracfone, you can purchase:

  • 30 minutes for 30 days,
  • Or several hundred minutes with a deadline of one year to use it

How Lifeline Makes it Possible

Assurance Wireless phones, provide disadvantaged customers with low-cost and free cellular services, because of the FFC funded Lifeline program.  Lifeline has been providing discounts for these services for eligible low-income customers since 1985.  Everyone needs to have the security that comes with the ability to make a phone call, when necessary.  Before 1985, Lifeline provided phone services for land lines.   As the telecommunications field is growing services have become cheaper, still there are people who cannot afford even basic  services.  Good to know help is available.

Who Qualifies

Many people may think, if they work, they are not eligible for a government phone.  This is not true!  There who work 40 or more hours a week, and still live below the federal poverty standards.  If you have a job, and feel you need this help, please read,  How to Apply and Qualify.   Actually, eligibility is not determined by whether you work ; but by your gross family.  If your total family income is at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, your family can receive help.

  • Work First
  • SNAPs/Food Stamps
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Low Income Energy
  • National Free lunch
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

If you believe you qualify, check out this site to find what Lifeline providers are servicing your state, go to their website and apply.  You will need to provide proof of your financial status with, recent payroll stubs, letter from social services, or w-2 statement.   If  approved, they notify you by email or regular mail.

What are the Benefits

You will receive one  phone and 250 minutes each month.  Once your activate your service, you receive your minutes monthly.  You also receive nationwide service, caller ID, call waiting, 911 and free customer service.

  • If you want to add air time, you can purchase $5, $20.
  • For 500 additions minutes, cost is $5  month.
  • For an additional 750 minutes and text-messaging  month, the cost is $20.New Monthly Purchasing Plans

The most cost-effective plan would be unlimited talk, text, and the Internet for $30 a month.  This is one of the cheapest plans around. You don’t have to worry about overages again! 

  • For $20 a month, you can get an additional 1000 talk and text messages, along with your basic  25 minutes and texts, for a total of 1250-minute talk and texts.   
  • For an $20 a month, you can purchase an extra 750 talk and text messages, along with your free 250 minutes and texts, for and more 1000 talk and texts. 
  • You can get an additional 500 minute and text messages for a mere $5 each month.

How to Apply:  To register, go to the Assurance Wireless website and download and application or call their toll-free number to request an application be mailed to you. Your application must be accompanied by proof of income, by submitting, current payment stubs, W-2 forms, or certification from the program you are receiving assistance from.
